Coordinated pack assaults with sickle claws — each member knowing its role in the kill.
Deinonychus perfected what Velociraptor had begun. Larger, stronger, and
more deliberate, it hunted in packs that operated with a precision that
bordered on strategy. Each member had a role. The fastest harried the prey,
keeping it running, keeping it turning. The strongest struck from the side,
sickle claws raking across flanks to open wounds that would slow and weaken.
And when the prey stumbled — when exhaustion and blood loss finally took
their toll — the pack closed as one. There was no wasted effort. No
unnecessary risk. Deinonychus did not overwhelm through numbers. It
dismantled through coordination. The great predators of the Dominion were
built for single, devastating strikes. Deinonychus proved that a different
model worked just as well: many smaller strikes, perfectly timed, from
creatures smart enough to trust each other. It was not the strongest thing
in its world. But it was, perhaps, the cleverest. And cleverness, as the
ages would prove, outlasts everything.
