Fangs longer than daggers, built for a single purpose — to bring down prey that dwarfed it.
The Resurgence was not a gentle age. It was cold, hard, and unforgiving, and
Smilodon was the sharpest thing in it. Its fangs — twin blades of ivory that
curved downward from its upper jaw like crescent moons — were not designed
for chewing or tearing. They were designed for one strike. One precise,
devastating plunge into the throat of something ten times its weight. Smilodon
did not chase. It ambushed. It waited in tall grass, in snow banks, in the
shadow of rocky outcrops, with a patience that belied the explosive violence
coiled in every muscle. And when it struck, the fangs drove home with a
surgeon's precision — finding the soft places, the vital places, the places
where even the largest creature could not survive being opened. The ice age
had many predators. Smilodon was the one that everything else feared. Not
because it was the biggest. Because it was the most certain. Those fangs
never hesitated. They never missed. And they never needed to strike twice.
