Encased in bone armor, its tail club could shatter the leg of any predator foolish enough to attack.
Ankylosaurus solved the problem of survival the same way a castle solves the
problem of war: by making the walls so thick that breaking in costs more than
it is worth. Its entire body was encased in plates of fused bone — back,
sides, skull, even its eyelids were armored. Nothing in the Dominion could
bite through it. Nothing could claw through it. And for any predator
stubborn enough to try, Ankylosaurus carried its own answer: a tail club of
solid bone, swung with enough force to shatter legs and crack skulls. It
did not need to be fast. It did not need to be clever. It only needed to
exist, low to the ground and utterly impervious, grazing the plains with the
calm assurance of something that had already won every fight it would ever
be in. The Dominion produced many impressive predators. Ankylosaurus was the
reason most of them looked for easier prey.
